Lindsey Walejewski, a Purdue Extension Nutrition Education Program Advisor, recently taught the CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) curriculum to third graders at Beiger Elementary in Mishawaka. Each of the five lessons focused on a physical activity, a nutrition-related lesson and a healthy snack.
At the end of five lessons the student’s teacher, Robert O’Hara, reported a significant change in behavior. He shared with Lindsay that he had noticed his students were in a much better mood after the classes! This led him to introduce more physical activity into the classroom and he began distributing healthy foods for snacks.
